Google Hotel Ads, free booking links and Business Profile for Ibiza hotels

Boutique hotel suite with an arched window and sea views

Google Hotel Ads, free booking links and your Google Business Profile decide what a guest sees when they look up your Ibiza hotel on Google Search or Maps: your photos and reviews, your price and, crucially, whether they can book on your own website or only through the OTAs. Two of the three cost nothing, yet plenty of boutique hotels and agroturismos on the island haven't set them up properly.

If you are used to running a hotel in the UK, the Netherlands or Germany, the tools are the same; what changes in Ibiza is the season, the tourist tax and the number of languages your guests search in. Here is what each layer does, how to switch it on and when paying for ads is worth it.

What guests see when they search for your hotel

Search your hotel's name, or something like "adults-only boutique hotel Ibiza", and Google shows a panel with photos, reviews, location and a prices module listing the sites that sell your rooms. Whether your official website appears there, with its rate, depends on three separate layers:

LayerWhat it doesCostWhat you need
Google Business ProfileYour presence on Search and Maps: photos, amenities, reviews, locationFreeA verified, well-maintained profile
Free booking linksYour website listed as a booking option, with its priceFree, clicks includedRates and availability connected to Google
Google Hotel AdsPaid placements with more prominence in the prices moduleWhatever you bidAll of the above, plus a Google Ads campaign or an ads partner

Order matters. Paying for ads before your profile is in shape and your rates are connected is building the roof before the walls.

Your hotel's Business Profile: what actually matters

Google positions the Business Profile as the free way to appear on Search and Maps, add photos, respond to reviews and show off your amenities. In Ibiza, where guests choose on the strength of a pool shot or the view from the room, the profile does as much selling as your website. Work through this list:

  • Your name exactly as it appears on your signage and website. Google's guidelines don't allow keywords, locations or taglines in the name, so "Hotel X Ibiza Luxury Adults Only" is asking for trouble.
  • The right primary category and amenities ticked: pool, parking, breakfast, pets, accessibility.
  • Recent photos of every room type, common areas, breakfast, exterior and views, refreshed before each season.
  • A description that says what sets you apart: location (Sant Joan in the north, Sant Josep near the west-coast coves), who you are for and your style.
  • A link to your official website in the right language, never to an OTA listing.
  • A reply to every review in the reviewer's language, negative ones included, written for the next guest who reads it.
  • Status and reception hours kept accurate when you close for winter, so nobody turns up to a locked gate.

Reviews carry extra weight on an island where almost every guest books from abroad or from the mainland. A simple way to ask at the right moment is an NFC or QR card at reception that opens the review screen in one tap. Grow Ibiza makes them for island businesses, but any method that cuts the number of steps will help.

Free booking links let your website appear with its rate in Google's hotel results. According to Google's Hotel Center help, there is no fee for appearing and no charge for clicks. They aren't ranked by auction but by usefulness to the user: consumer preference, value, landing page experience and the historical accuracy of the prices you send. Bids have no effect on their position and nobody can pay to move up.

To switch them on:

  1. Ask your booking engine or channel manager whether it is a Google connectivity partner. It may already be connected and able to activate the links for you; if not, Google has a form to help you find one.
  2. Check the rate you send. Google says it doesn't require your best available rate, but a price higher than the OTAs in the same module won't win anyone over.
  3. Get the landing page right. The click should land on your booking engine with dates pre-filled, in the visitor's language and fast on a phone.
  4. Check that you appear. Search for your hotel on your phone with peak-season dates and see whether your website is listed among the booking options.

It is the cheapest way to win back bookings that currently end up with an OTA even though the guest had already found you, and it slots straight into the wider plan in our guide to direct bookings vs OTAs for Ibiza hotels.

Google Hotel Ads: when paying makes sense

Hotel Ads are the paid layer. Your website gains prominence in the prices module, and you get audience targeting and extra reporting. Google describes them as a paid add-on once your rates are connected, run through Google Ads or with an ads partner. Google has also retired commission-based bid strategies for hotel campaigns and now points advertisers to target ROAS or Performance Max for travel goals, so whoever runs your account needs to track real bookings, not just clicks.

They tend to make sense when most of these are true:

  • Your average daily rate is high enough that each direct booking comfortably covers the click cost.
  • Your booking engine converts well and conversion tracking is set up properly in Google Ads and your analytics.
  • Free booking links are already live and you want more presence in the weeks when guests plan their summer, and in the shoulder season.
  • Someone will review the campaign every week through the season.

If any of these is missing, fix it first. An ad that lands on a slow page with no price simply sends the guest back to the OTA, and you have paid for the privilege.

Price, language and landing page: where bookings leak

Google uses the historical accuracy of your prices when ranking free booking links, so a rate that changes after the click hurts you twice: you lose the booking and you lose position. The usual culprits:

  • A price shown without taxes on Google and with taxes on your site, or the Balearic sustainable tourism tax added at the last step without warning.
  • Non-refundable rates sent as though they were your standard rate.
  • A Spanish-language landing page for a British visitor, or your homepage instead of the booking engine with dates loaded.
  • Availability that doesn't sync and shows rooms you have already sold on an OTA.

Language deserves its own check. If your site doesn't have complete, properly linked language versions, Google can't send each guest to the right one; our guide to multilingual websites for Ibiza hotels and restaurants explains how to set it up.

Your profile, booking links and ads are the part of Google closest to the booking. The other half is being found before guests know your name, through your own content, which we cover in SEO for hotels in Ibiza. If you'd rather see it all as one plan, start with our hotel marketing in Ibiza page.

Frequently asked questions

How much do Google's free booking links cost?

Nothing. According to Google's Hotel Center help, there is no fee to appear and no charge for clicks. You do need your rates and availability connected to Google, usually through your booking engine or channel manager if it is a connectivity partner.

What is the difference between free booking links and Google Hotel Ads?

Free booking links are ranked on usefulness to the user, such as price accuracy and your landing page, and you can't pay to move up. Hotel Ads are paid placements that give you more prominence in the prices module, plus audience targeting and extra reporting.

Can I add 'Ibiza' or 'boutique' to my hotel's name on Google?

Only if it is part of your real name as it appears on your signage, website and paperwork. Google's guidelines prohibit adding keywords, locations or taglines to the business name, and doing so can get the profile suspended.

My hotel closes in winter. What should I do with the profile?

Keep it live and accurate: show the real status and reception hours, make your reopening date clear in the description and on your website, and keep replying to reviews. You keep the visibility you've built and guests planning next summer can still book.
