Video content for yacht charter companies in Ibiza: Reels, drones and a plan for the season

Yacht cruising over turquoise water seen from above

A day on a boat in Ibiza sells through the eyes: the colour of the water off Espalmador, a sun-drenched deck, sunset in front of Es Vedrà. That is why video content for yacht charter companies in Ibiza is not decoration for your social feeds. It is what persuades guests who have never stepped aboard, from a Reel to the cover image on your Google listing.

This guide covers what to film, how to approach Reels for a charter business, what to check before flying a drone on the island and how to plan production so every shot keeps working all season.

Why video sells days at sea

Guests booking a boat are not buying length overall or engine size. They are buying a day at sea with their people. A photo shows the boat; a video shows what it is like on board, how much deck space there is, who the crew are and what the water looks like in the cove. That matters enormously when guests decide from home, without ever seeing the boat in person.

Charter video is not just for Instagram, either. The same well-produced footage feeds your homepage, your individual boat pages, your Google Business Profile, your WhatsApp catalogue, your adverts and the material you send to villas and hotels. Filming with all of those uses in mind is what makes a shoot day pay for itself.

Think about the people who recommend you, too. When a charter broker or villa concierge suggests your boat, hand them a short walkthrough of each boat they can forward straight into a WhatsApp chat. It saves them describing the boat from memory, and the guest sees exactly what they are booking, which means fewer surprises on the pontoon and fewer awkward questions afterwards.

What to film: a shot bank for the whole season

Write a shot list before you film. It saves hours in the edit and guarantees you have material for every channel:

ShotWhat it doesWhere it goes
Aerial of the boat at anchor in a coveImpact and sense of placeHomepage, adverts, Reels
Walkthrough of deck and cabinsAnswers questions about space and comfortBoat pages, WhatsApp, brokers
Meet the crewTrust: real names and facesWebsite, Stories, Business Profile
Route moments: Es Vedrà, Espalmador, Ses Illetes, sunsetHelps guests picture their dayReels, route pages, adverts
Short FAQ clipsWhat is included, what to bring, where to meetWhatsApp, website, Story highlights
Guests enjoying themselves, with consentAuthentic social proofSocial and website, only with written permission

Capture your key shots in both vertical and horizontal: vertical for Reels and Stories, horizontal for the website and adverts. And if guests are on board, get written consent before you publish anyone.

Reels for a charter business: how to approach them

The Reels that work for boat businesses tend to show something specific in the first few seconds: the boat gliding into a cove, a jump off the stern, the table laid at sunset. A few practical pointers:

  • One idea per video. "A day in Formentera in 30 seconds" or "what our skippered trip includes", not both at once.
  • On-screen text and subtitles, for people watching with the sound off and for an international audience. English is usually the common language; if a big share of your guests are Italian or Spanish, test versions in their language.
  • Places and keywords in the caption: Ibiza, Formentera, the cove or the marina you leave from.
  • A clear call to action: message on WhatsApp, check availability or save the video for the trip.

To test ideas without wearing out your followers, Instagram offers trial reels. According to TechCrunch, they are shown to non-followers first; after 24 hours you can see views, likes, comments and shares, then decide whether to post the reel to your profile. It is a cheap way to compare two different hooks for the same boat.

In season, content also sells empty slots: a Story of the boat leaving in the morning with "seats left for tomorrow" is a sales tool. We cover that in last-minute charter bookings in a short season.

Drone filming in Ibiza: spectacular, but regulated

The aerial shot is the most striking of all, and the one with the most rules attached. If you are used to flying elsewhere, note that what applies in Spain is Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947 and Spain's Royal Decree 517/2024, not your home country's rules. According to ENAIRE, Spain's air navigation provider, the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) handles operator registration, pilot qualifications and authorisations, while ENAIRE coordinates drone operations in the airspace it manages. With an airport on the island itself, do not assume you can fly over any cove you like.

In practice:

  • Work with a pilot registered as an operator, with the training and insurance the operation requires.
  • Check the area's restrictions before every flight using ENAIRE's tools, such as its ENAIRE Drones app.
  • Plan flights away from crowded beaches and other boats.

Keep what you show consistent, too. The Balearic Government's Decree 25/2018 (in Spanish) bans anchoring on Posidonia seagrass as a general rule. A beautiful shot with the anchor sitting on a meadow can backfire; film anchoring over sand or on authorised buoys instead.

Production plan: shoot once, use it all season

The best time for your main shoot is before the rush begins: freshly prepared boats, crew available and coves still quiet. That footage gets your website, boat pages and campaigns ready for the season. Over the summer, the crew can capture real moments on their phones to keep social channels alive.

One technical catch: heavy videos on your homepage can make the site slow on mobile, which is exactly where guests book. We explain why that matters in why a slow website does not show up on Google. For an alternative to a homepage video, try Halcyon, our concept charter site with a real-time 3D ocean.

  • A shot list with the format and destination of every shot.
  • Main shoot before the season, with clean boats and crew available.
  • A registered, insured drone pilot, with zones checked before every flight.
  • Anchoring filmed over sand or on buoys, never on Posidonia.
  • Written consent from any guest who appears.
  • Subtitles and on-screen text in your main languages.
  • Videos optimised so the website stays fast.
  • Footage shared with partners, Google and your WhatsApp catalogue.

Frequently asked questions

What content works best for a boat hire business?

Content that shows the experience: aerials in coves, deck and cabin walkthroughs, the crew, route moments such as Es Vedrà or Espalmador and short clips answering common questions. Film with your website, Google, WhatsApp and adverts in mind, not just Instagram.

Can I fly a drone in Ibiza to film a yacht?

It depends on the location and the operation. Spain applies Regulation (EU) 2019/947 and Royal Decree 517/2024, and AESA handles operator registration and authorisations. Work with a registered, insured pilot and check the area's restrictions with ENAIRE's tools before every flight.

What are Instagram trial reels?

Reels that are shown to non-followers first. After 24 hours you can see how they performed and decide whether to post them to your profile. They are useful for comparing hooks or ideas without wearing out your followers.

When should a charter company film its content?

Do the main shoot before the season, with the boats prepared and the coves quiet, so your website and campaigns are ready. During the summer, the crew can film real moments on their phones for Stories and Reels.
